October 1 Poverty Alliance Annual Conference and AGM: It’s Everyone’s Business: Working Together to Combat PovertyThis year’s Annual Conference is taking place during the UK ‘focus week’ for the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, and is being supported by the European Parliament Office in Scotland. Speakers from the UK and Scottish Government and the European Commission have been invited to set out what they are doing to address poverty in the current context of financial crisis and cuts to public spending.

We will also have workshop discussions looking at how we meet a variety of challenges of making work pay, improving skills and investing in early years. These are all areas that have been identified as areas for development in all European Member States in the new ‘Europe 2020 Strategy’. We will close the conference with a plenary session with Scottish members of the European Parliament.
