May 22 Tackling Poverty, Inequality and Deprivation in ScotlandIn January 2008 the Government launched a discussion paper called 'Tackling Poverty, Inequality and Deprivation in Scotland'. It sets out the Government's commitment to tackling the "significant inequalities in Scottish society", highlighting key principles and suggesting a number of actions that should be taken to tackle poverty.

The framework is intended to provide a comprehensive and cross-government approach to tackling poverty in Scotland. It will be produced later this year, after further discussion with key stakeholders. And the Government is also seeking the views of the Scottish people on this critical issue.

It is essential that those who are in the front line of the fight against poverty have an opportunity to highlight their experience. That is why The Poverty Alliance and GCVS are encouraging as many voluntary and community organisations as possible to feed their views into the development of this new Framework.

Our half-day consultation event is your opportunity for all individuals and organisations to have a dialogue with the Scottish Government about what it is doing, and what it should be doing, to tackle poverty in Scotland. The event will be an opportunity to get the background on recent anti-poverty policy and to have an in-depth discussion on the Scottish Government's consultation.
