2008October 23 The GDP cost of the lost earning potential of adults who grew up in povertyGrowing up in poverty reduces employment prospects and earnings in later life. This has a negative impact on GDP through lost productivity. Quantifying these personal and public costs opens the way to discovering the potential impact of abolishing child poverty.

This report uses data from The British Cohort Study to estimate the impact of growing up in poverty on earnings and employment. It then calculates the aggregate effect of eliminating these disadvantages and therefore improving the labour market earnings of individuals.

2008October 23 The costs of child poverty for individuals and society - a literature reviewChild poverty has serious consequences for individuals and wider social implications. These include losses to the economy through reduced productivity, lower educational attainment and poor health. While there is a growing body of evidence on child poverty, comparatively few studies have attached a financial cost to these consequences.

This report reviews evidence on the impacts of child poverty in industrialised, OECD counties.

2008September 22 Going places!: Ensuring the play and youth strategies deliver for disabled children and young peopleIn summer 2007 EDCM asked disabled children and young people this question: “If you were Prime Minister for the day and could change one thing, what would it be?”

The top answer was to ‘have more fun things to do’ – just like other young people.

Then, in summer 2008, we asked disabled children and young people this question: “What would more fun things to do and places to go look like for you?”

This booklet sets out their answers, and makes recommendations about what needs to happen to ensure all disabled children and young people have the opportunity to be ‘going places’!
